District teachers awarded NSEF grants to enhance programming:
Thirteen North Syracuse Central School District teachers were recently recognized for receiving grants from the North Syracuse Education Foundation (NSEF) in their 2019 Grant Award’s Program. NSEF resources support quality education through creative opportunities, and innovative/imaginative approaches.
Since 2003, NSEF has provided more than $100,000 in grant money for student programming through generous contributions from the community. The mission of the Foundation is to sponsor activities and projects intended to enhance the education and cultural enrichment of the students of the North Syracuse Central School District.

CNS Honor Choir Performs at Carnegie Hall:
Sixteen students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School were selected to perform with the National Youth Choir at Carnegie Hall on April 7, 2019. Over 300 students from as far away as Puerto Rico, Canada, and California all gathered in New York City to work under the direction of internationally recognized choral conductor Dr. Eph Ehly.
The students prepared six choral selections for performance. While in New York, CNS students also attended the Broadway production of ‘Mean Girls’; toured midtown Manhattan to see such sights as Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Plaza, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Grand Central Station, the New York Public Library, and the Macy’s Flower Festival; and visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Allen Road Elementary School Celebrates Literacy!:
Students, staff and families at Allen Road Elementary School recently spent an evening together celebrating reading and writing at their school's Literacy Night. The March 27 event was the culmination of the school's month of PARP (Parents as Reading Partners) activities.
The theme for this year’s PARP month and Literacy Night was ‘Telling Tales’ – with a focus on Tall Tales, Fairy Tales, and Folk Tales. Throughout the month, students enjoyed quality literacy experiences with an adult or adults and then created a final project based on their encounters. PARP activities also included weekly Drop Everything and Read times along with themed celebration days.

CNS students learn importance of voting:
By CNS student Steven Baker - On Thursday March 14, a group of students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School were able to go to a presentation on the importance of voting. The presentation was given by Dustin Czarny in the Large Group Instruction Room where he gave a slideshow presentation.
Czarny spoke to students about the importance of voting and discussed how it is the most effective way for young people to communicate with government. He explained New York State's unique voting system and the fact that if the two political parties do not agree on something, they may take it to court and have a judge tell them what to do.

Roxboro Road Middle School students participate in CNY Science and Engineering Fair:
On Sunday, March 31, five students from Roxboro Middle School participated in the CNY Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by the Museam of Science and Technology (MOST) in Syracuse. The MOST hosts its annual Central New York Science & Engineering Fair every March at the SRC Arena on the Onondaga Community College campus. Students get the lifelong benefit of understanding science in a unique, hands-on way by actually performing an experiment of their own design or engineering a device or process.

Community invited to special free showing of "ScreenAgers" on April 4:
The North Syracuse and Liverpool Central School District communities are invited to a special free screening of SCREENAGERS: Growing Up in The Digital Age . SCREENAGERS is the first feature documentary to explore the impact of screen technology on kids and offer parents and families proven solutions that work. The film is not available in theaters. It can only be screened as a community in certain locations.
The special screening at Cicero-North Syracuse High School will take place on Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Childcare is available.

Board of Education Announces Selection of Daniel D. Bowles as Superintendent of Schools:

Families in the North Syracuse Central School District are invited to a special seminar, "Credit-Ability: Build a Strong Credit History," on Tuesday, April 9. The seminar will take place at Roxboro Road Middle School (300 Bernard Street) in Mattydale at 7:00 p.m.
As part of a unique partnership with CORE Federal Credit Union, Cicero-North Syracuse High School students periodically hold seminars for their peers on a variety of topics relating to personal finance, in addition to mentoring younger students. Students and staff at Roxboro Road Middle School spent the day on March 20, National Happiness Day, spreading kindness and posting their good intentions on their school's first ever Happiness Wall. Ms Hartmann's FCCLA group led the project as part of Live Happy's campaign to spread kindness. Group members encouraged their peers and teachers to post and share how they will spread happiness to others while celebrating the happiness movement.

Parent Advocacy Group's Effective Communication session rescheduled for March 21:
North Syracuse Central School District's Parent Advocacy Group was scheduled to meet for two sessions on February 26 but due to a 2-hour delay, the morning session had to be rescheduled. The new date for the morning "Effective Communication Between Schools and Families: The Key to Success" session is March 21, 2019. The session will take place at the Jerome F. The North Syracuse Central School District has sent out their annual community survey seeking input from parents, guardians and community members. 2019 is the fourth year that the district has administered a community survey.
The survey is being sent as a link to families with children currently enrolled in the district. The survey can also be accessed online by clicking here from January 21, 2019 through February 28, 2019. The survey results will be compiled and analyzed during the month of March and will be shared with the community.

NSJHS students PAWS to de-stress:
Students at North Syracuse Junior High School have had several opportunities to de-stress this semester with the help of some furry friends from K9 Caring Angels Therapy Dogs of Syracuse. In January and twice in February, one or more dogs and their owners/handlers from the agency, spent time with groups of junior high students. During the visits, the owners talked to students about the work that therapy dogs do, explained the difference between therapy and service dogs and discussed what makes a good therapy dog. The students were able to directly interact with the dogs and ask questions of the handlers.

District revising timeline for renovations to KWS Bear Road Elementary School:
The North Syracuse Central School District and its Board of Education are working to create a revised timeline for capital project renovations at KWS Bear Road Elementary School after receiving construction bids approximately $12 million over the approved project budget.
As a result of the large difference, the District will not be proceeding with renovations at the school until it is able to come up with a revised project plan.
