Dear Parent or Guardian:
The safety and welfare of our students and staff is our highest priority at North Syracuse Junior High. We practice various safety drills throughout the year to help our students and staff know what to do in case of an emergency. The New York State Department of Education sets the guidelines regarding the number of emergency response drills conducted within our schools.
The Junior High works closely with district personnel, our School Resource Officer, and building staff to effectively implement these procedures. The goals of these drills are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plans and improve our response skills. As a precaution, the Junior High will conduct a minimum of twelve (12) periodic drills of this nature throughout the school year to ensure the safety of our students and staff members. Please be sure to discuss with your student(s) the importance of these drills and their cooperation with building staff when they occur.
On Monday, September 10th, NSJHS has scheduled our first “Lockdown” DRILL of our Building Level Emergency Response Plan. The approximate time for this drill will be during 2nd Block (9-10 am). During the drill no students or parents will be able to enter or leave the building. Please plan accordingly. This is the only DRILL that will be announced prior to its occurrence.
While we understand parents have the desire to have timely communication from the school, especially when the safety of your children is involved, we ask you be patient as sometimes we are not able to immediately communicate as we are placing our primary attention on the safety of the students in our care.
Thank you for your understanding.
NSJHS Administration and Staff
