Current Capital Projects

The North Syracuse Central School District is committed to maintaining of facilities to provide safe and effective environments for our students, staff and community members. Therefore, periodically the district embarks on voter approved capital projects to ensure that we fulfil our commitment. Listed below is capital project work that is currently in progress.

2019 Roofing Projects

In 2019 the North Syracuse Central School District was able to complete the replacement of several roof sections at both Allen Road Elementary School and North Syracuse Junior High School. Thanks to favorable market conditions, the initial work identified was completed under budget. This allowed the District to resubmit to NYSED and obtain approval to complete additional roof sections at both Allen Road Elementary School and Cicero-North Syracuse High School. The remaining work at Allen Road is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022 (provided supply chain challenges allow). The work at Cicero-North Syracuse High School is being delayed to coincide with related work which is a part of the recent Structured for Success referendum approved by voters in December of 2021.

2020 KWS Bear Road Elementary School Renovations

Despite the challenges introduced by the COVID-19 Pandemic over the past couple of years, renovations at KWS Bear Road Elementary School have progressed well. The project team had the foresight to place critical material and equipment orders well in advance and despite periodic labor shortages the team expects to bring the project in on time and on budget! With renovations nearly 85% complete as of March 1, 2022, we are in great shape to welcome all of the schools students, family and staff back in September of 2022. Keep an eye out for information on an Open House in August, we are really excited to share these exciting new spaces with all of you.

2021 Structured for Success (S4S)

The first of what we hope to be a series of referendums to address our aging infrastructure and to modernize our facilities in support of the students, families and staff of the NSCSD. This first phase of S4S addresses critical HVAC systems and renovations at CNS, Cicero Elementary and Lakeshore Elementary. Thanks to additional support from the Smith Road Elementary PTO this referendum also includes the modernization of their playground and enhancements to their public address system. Work at CNS will include significant renovations to both the Main Gym and the Auditorium. Both identified Elementary Schools will undergo renovations to ½ of each building similar in scope to the KWS Bear Road renovation. In an effort to minimize the impact to local taxes, the other ½ of each of these buildings will be put forward in a future referendum to take better advantage of available State Aid.

2021 Cicero-North Syracuse High School Community Swimming Pool

As a part of the S4S referendum, the community showed tremendous support for Proposition 2, the addition of a swimming pool on the campus of Cicero-North Syracuse High School. It has taken many years to get to this point and though it will take us a bit more time to work through the design and permitting process we are just as excited as our swimmers to make it a reality.
