North Syracuse Junior High student leads district-wide blanket drive:
For the past several years, DJ Villnave, now a high school freshman at North Syracuse Junior High School, has spearheaded a community blanket drive to help people in need. This year, DJ has the support of all schools in the district and several community groups. Blankets can be dropped off at any school in the district and several other locations through the end of January. Please consider sending in a new or gently used blanket to help with the cause!

CNS student peer teachers at Cicero Elementary School:
During the month of December, students from the Cicero-North Syracuse High School's block 3 Money and Banking class went to Cicero Elementary and visited the 3 rd grade classes of Ms. DeGennaro, Ms. Norris, Ms. Malcolm and Ms. Hill to read a book and do a lesson on money and finances. Everyone had a great experience.

Allen Road Elementary School's Winter Wonderland takes visitors on a journey around the globe:
This year's annual PTO Winter Wonderland event at Allen Road Elementary School had a unique twist for visitors. In addition to the usual Holiday Shoppe where students can buy presents for their parents, take part in a tree lighting ceremony, create craft projects and visit with Santa, this year visitors had the opportunity to celebrate the various cultures of their classmates.
With the largest population of English Language Learners in any of the district's elementary schools, Allen Road's parents, students and staff, decided to celebrate their diversity at the annual PTO event. Roxboro Road Elementary Soup-er Bowl of Caring:
As a PBIS School, Roxboro Road Elementary participated in this year’s Salvation Army Food Drive. We were able to fill more than 3 barrels with canned and other non-perishable food items.
This year we kicked of “Soup-er Bowl” with a friendly competition between the three classroom hallways. Trustworthy Trail was the winning hallway this year, earning the 1 st annual “Soup-er Bowl Trophy”, by filling almost 2 barrels with food!
In conjunction with the food drive each student also decorated brown paper bags for the Salvation Army Christmas Distribution. The bags will be used for stocking stuffer items on Distribution Day.

Smart Schools Bond Act Notice of Intent to Amend Smart Schools Plan – School Connectivity:
The North Syracuse Central School District has updated the Smart Schools Bond Act. The amended plan was reviewed by the Board of Education at the April 19, 2021 Board of Education Meeting and is available for community review by clicking here .
The original plan for wiring and adding wireless connectivity to Cicero North Syracuse High School, North Syracuse Junior High School, and Main Street was projected to cost $3,094,788.00. Materials and labor came in lower with the competitive bidding process and the project finished with a total of $2,778,223.06. Therefore, we are notifying the citizens of the North Syracuse Central School District of our intent to amend the original plan and to use the balance of $316,564.94 on classroom technology.

District forms committee to study swimming pool feasibility, seeks committee members:
May 8, 2018 - Please be advised that the committee will not be meeting on May 8 as their work has been completed. The committe will present to the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education at a special meeting on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m.
At their November 20, 2017 meeting, the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education passed a resolution establishing a Swimming Pool Advisory Committee. The North Syracuse Central School District has not formally studied the possibility of a pool in over 20 years. The decision to form this committee comes because of recent correspondence and comments from parents and students expressing their desire for a pool for use by our swim team, students and possibly community members.

Section III Boys Volleyball raises money for Make-A-Wish Foundation of CNY:
Section III Boys Volleyball raised $8000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of CNY throughout the course of the fall sports season and presented the proceeds to CEO Diane Kuppermann and Wish Kid Melissa at the Section III finals at Cicero-North Syracuse High School on Tuesday, November 7. The C-NS Boys Volleyball community raised a record $4991 during the season for the worthy cause. CNS Marching Band wins National Championship:
On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Marching Band competed in the US Bands A Class National Championships in Allentown, PA. Over 40 bands competed throughout the day. The Northstars won the Class V National Championship as well as a caption award for best visual in Class V. They also received the highest score of the entire day with a 94.625. Congratulations on an amazing job!

Congratulations to Cicero-North Syracuse High School seniors Joshua Pickard and Bruce Hepel for being named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

Tree from Cicero-North Syracuse High School is Syracuse City's Christmas Tree:
On Friday, November 3, work crews from the City of Syracuse were at Cicero-North Syracuse High School to cut down a 65 ft. Norway Spruce tree, which the district donated to the city for their annual Christmas Tree. The tree was then transported to Clinton Square by JPW Erectors, which donated their services. The tree was placed at Clinton Square and will be lit during at city's ceremony on Friday, November 24.

The Flu: A Guide for Parents:
Influenza, commonly referred to as the 'flu', is a severe respiratory illness that is easily spread and can lead to severe complications, even death. Free After-school Tutoring for Eligible Native American Students:
Through its Native American Grant Program, the North Syracuse Central School District is making available free tutoring services to Native American students attending school within the district who have filed the appropriate 506 eligibility certification forms. Tutoring, provided by certified teachers, will be provided at district schools or local libraries for up to two (2) hours per week.

District receives "Be the Change for Kids" award for Exploring Computer Science at Gillette Road Middle School:
Congratulations to Gillette Road Middle School's successful "Exploring Computer Science" program, for recently being recognized be the New York State School Boards Association with a 2017 Be the Change for Kids Innovation Award!
Students and staff involved with the program traveled to Albany on September 27, along with North Syracuse Central School District Superintendent of Schools Annette Speach and Board of Education member Erin McDonald, to be recognized and receive the award's $5,000 check!

District voters approve capital project referendum:
North Syracuse Central School District voters have approved the district’s proposed capital project referendum. 881 votes were cast, with the final tally being 545 yes votes and 336 no votes on a building project for roof replacements at Allen Road Elementary School, KWS Bear Road Elementary School, Gillette Road Middle School, North Syracuse Junior High School and Cicero-North Syracuse High School and the replacement of six tennis courts at the North Syracuse Junior High School.

CNS students' artwork helps local community in need!:
Cicero-North Syracuse High School (CNS) senior Morgan Williamson organized a student art sale to benefit the Food Bank of Central New York at the recent Golden Harvest Art Festival at Beaver Lake Nature Center. This was the first time student art had been featured in this juried show and they did fantastic! When they ran low on artwork, they started selling paper leaves and built an entire tree of hope, raising enough money to provide over 3,600 meals to the needy in Upstate New York.

Registration available for Early Education Program at Main Street School:
The North Syracuse Central School District is accepting registrations for its Early Education Pre-K Program at Main Street School for the 2017/18 school year. Preschool Education Programs at Main Street School are offered for children ages 3 and 4 years old.
In order to enroll your child in a FULL-day program for the 2017/18 school year, he/she must be 3 years old by 9/1/17. In order to enroll your child in a HALF-day program for the 2017/18 school year or in a summer session, he/she must be 3 years old by 12/1/17.
