On Monday, May 20, students from Mr. Nadler's Film & Screen Design class at Cicero-North Syracuse High School had the extraordinary opportunity to visit News Channel 9, a local television news studio in East Syracuse. This visit provided a comprehensive look into the world of broadcast journalism, offering students valuable insights and firsthand experiences.
The day began with an extensive tour of the facility, led by executive producer Tim Fox. Community Forum on Race and Equity at CNS on June 13:
The North Syracuse Central School District is inviting participants to its first Community Forum on Race and Equity. The event is intended for current CNS juniors and seniors as well as NSCSD alumni, families, caregivers and community members to share their experiences and concerns on the topics of race and equity within the district. The forum is being run and facilitated by trained professionals with the Center for Dialogue and Action at InterFaith Works of Central New York. It will take place at Cicero North Syracuse High School on Thursday, June 13 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

NSCSD voters approve proposed budget:
North Syracuse Central School District voters have agreed to the district’s proposed 2024-2025 school year budget with a 65,2 percent approval. A total of 1,846 votes were cast, with the final tally being 1,204 yes votes and 642 no votes on the $212,196,591 proposal. A bus proposition for $2,152,433 also passed with 1,268 yes votes and 579 no votes for a 68.7 percent approval. Voters also authorized the district’s use of capital reserve/debt service funds for ongoing construction projects with a 69.3 percent approval (1,271 yes votes/564 no votes). Additionally, the Salina Free Library proposition for $510,565 passed (76.3 percent approval) with 58 yes votes and 18 no votes.

North Syracuse Little League Opening Day made extra special thanks to high school athletes:
This year’s opening day for the North Syracuse Little League (NSLL) was an especially memorable one thanks to the support of some NSCSD students. Prior to opening day, NSLL Co-President Jo Andrews had reached out to the Northstars Baseball Program for assistance in making the day special for the young players and their families.
Ms. Andrews is also a dedicated teacher in the NSCSD and says she was overwhelmed by the positive response from the high school baseball teams. Congratulations to Onondaga County Sheriff's Office Deputy Lehmann, a School Resource Officer at North Syracuse Junior High School, for being recognized with a “Community Service Award” from Cicero North Syracuse Optimists. Deputy Lehmann is part of the School Resource Officer Unit in school districts within Onondaga County. The deputies are invaluable resources for the schools and the community’s children.

CNS Senior Thomas Wills II named U.S. Presidential Scholar - one of only six in New York state:
In a May 9, 2024 press release from the United States Department of Education, the North Syracuse Central School District learned that Cicero-North Syracuse High School Senior Thomas Wills, II, has been named a 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholar. Thomas is one of only six students in New York State and 161 in the entire United States, to have earned this prestigious honor.

Operation Safe Stop event provides reminders to drivers:
Did you know?
Surveys show as many as 50,000 motor vehicles illegally pass New York State school buses every day.
Passing motorists are the second leading cause of school transportation student fatalities.
The North Syracuse Central School District's Transportation Department recently held an "Operation Safe Stop" media event in conjunction with the Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisory Board and numerous law enforcement agencies, This state-supported effort aims to remind drivers about driving safely around school buses.

On Thursday, April 18, the top ten percent of students in the Cicero-North Syracuse Class of 2024 was recognized at a special ceremony. The students were treated to a celebratory breakfast in the school’s library and were presented with certificates by Executive Principal Kristen Hill in front of their peers. May is Mental Health Month - support the cause by wearing green on Fridays!:
May is Mental Health Month and the NSCSD is holding a month-long awareness campaign around the theme. To launch the campaign, the District is designating Friday May 3 as “It’s Okay Friday,” a day to check in with each other and ask for help if needed. To support efforts to increase mental health awareness, the North Syracuse Central School District is asking everyone to wear green or something with a positive message every Friday throughout the month of May.
Lisa Goldberg, the District’s Director of Social Emotional Wellness is hoping the campaign encourages people to connect. She said, “We want to send the message that it is okay to ask for help.”

CNS Optimist Club Oratorical Contest winners:
The Optimist Club of Cicero-North Syracuse has announced the winners of this year’s Oratorical Contest. Six contestants entered this year’s competition with and gave speeches on “How to Change the World with Optimism.”
With a top award of a $2,500 college scholarship, all students under the age of 19 who live within the boundaries of the North Syracuse Central School District were eligible to participate. Contestants were asked to speak on the official topic for four to five minutes with timing beginning at the first spoken word.
