Gillette Middle School proudly presents Lion King Junior, March 21, 22 and 23. Shows will take place at 7pm each night in the school's auditorium. More than 100 students and directors are involved in this classic tale. It is really a human tale told through animal characters- thus the Broadway costume that purposely showed the human actors within the animal costumes. The story deals with a prodigal son trying to find his place, an uncle thirsting for power and a kind tribe just wanting what is right and fair. District takes top honors in Paige's Pajamarama:
March 1, 2024: For the second consecutive year, the North Syracuse Central School District has been named the top supporter for Paige's Pajamarama , The event is a charity allowing students to wear their pajamas to school when making a donation to Paige's Butterfly Run, Inc., an organization which supports children with pediatric cancer at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital.

The Optimist Club of Cicero-North Syracuse has selected its winners for this year’s essay contest, the theme of which was, “Optimism: How it Connects Us.”

CNS Vocal Jazz and Jazz ensembles earn gold!:
On February 15th, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Vocal Jazz and Jazz ensembles participated in the 21st annual Fonda-Fultonville Jazz Festival. The festival continues to deliver an all-day musical experience for attendees. This year, FFC School District invited 17 school district bands/vocal groups to participate in this annual event. Throughout the day, you can hear the sweet sounds of jazz, contemporary, and big-band musical styles for all to enjoy. The festival finished out with a Director’s Band Performing 5 pieces for the students and featuring the very distinguished judging panel. District currently undergoing scheduled water testing and will be releasing building results as available:
February 20, 2024: The North Syracuse Central School District is in the process of completing regularly scheduled testing of its drinking water in accordance with New York State standards for Lead in Water. According to the law, all school districts and BOCES must conduct testing of school potable water sources in occupied buildings.
When the law was enacted in 2016, testing was required every five years. In 2021, New York State Governor Hochul signed a law increasing the frequency of testing to every three years and lowering the acceptable lead threshold from 15 ppb to 5 ppb. The law also requires that all lab results be distributed to families and made available online.

Thomas A. Wills II, a graduating senior at Cicero-North Syracuse High School has been named a candidate in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Thomas is one of approximately 5,000 students selected from the nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from United States high schools in the year 2024.
Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.

For the past 70+ years, high school students from across Central New York have been recognized in the Central New York Scholastic Art Awards. This year was an especially challenging year, with major technical problems at the National Online Registration System, but our students persevered and received numerous awards and recognitions.
This year, CNS High School art students took home a total of 77 awards at the Regional level. 31 works of art received Honorable Mention Awards, 26 works received Silver Key Awards, and 13 works of art received Gold Key Awards. Kindergarten registration taking place in March:
The North Syracuse Central School District has announced its registration dates for 2024-2025 kindergarten students. Home schools are in the process of mailing letters to families that will be registering known new students. In order for your child to enter school next fall, he or she must be five (5) years old on or before Dec. 1, 2024.
Elementary schools are holding registration at individual schools on the following dates. Families will receive a letter from their child’s home school with instructions for completing registration. Families who will be registering a new kindergarten student and who have not received their letter by the first week in March should contact the school directly at the school’s main number.

Building bridges and bedding: CNS students partner with InterFaith Works to welcome New Americans:
On Saturday, January 27, members of the Cicero-North Syracuse (CNS) High School Human Rights Club, along with the school’s 2024 Seal of Biliteracy candidates, came together to volunteer with InterFaith Works of CNY. InterFaith Works is an organization dedicated to affirming the dignity of people and their faith traditions, building racial and religious equity and creating bridges of understanding.
The collaboration between the organization and CNS is a partnership formed this year by Jessica Keane as the teacher of the school’s new World Culture Exploration course. Representatives from InterFaith Works came to CNS earlier this year to speak to students in the course along with members of the Human Rights Club.

A team of students from Gillette Road Middle School, made up of Ella Besemer, Addison Daz, Payton Jobson, Graysen Mims and Bristol Widas, earned first place honors in the Micron Robotics Challenge.
Wednesday, January 31, 2024: This past weekend, the Micron Robotics Challenge brought together middle school students from across the region to showcase their ingenuity and problem-solving skills. On December 7, 2023, thirty students from Roxboro Road Middle School, Gillette Road Middle and North Syracuse Junior High School gathered at the North Syracuse Central School District Office to compete in a districtwide spelling bee.
The talented youth from grades five through eight were challenged with a variety of words ranging from simple spellings such as “manual” and “recital” to more difficult spellings such as “mischievous.” All students came to this competition after completing written and oral exams within their schools.
