CNS Vocal Jazz and Jazz ensembles earn gold!

On February 15th, the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Vocal Jazz and Jazz ensembles participated in the 21st annual Fonda-Fultonville Jazz Festival.  The festival continues to deliver an all-day musical experience for attendees. This year, FFC School District invited 17 school district bands/vocal groups to participate in this annual event. Throughout the day, you can hear the sweet sounds of jazz, contemporary, and big-band musical styles for all to enjoy.  The festival finished out with a Director’s Band Performing 5 pieces for the students and featuring the very distinguished judging panel.  C-NS students said their favorite part was being able to watch the directors and the judges perform some really great music for them.  Mrs. Rausa, the director of both CNS groups, played baritone sax as well as surprised her students by singing “Ain’t Got Nothin’ But the Blues” in the Director’s Band.
The CNS Jazz Ensembles entered the festival in the highest class - AA and came away with two gold awards. They received 197 out of a possible 200 points. CNS Jazz Band also received the award for best trumpet and trombone line.

In addition, one award is given each year for Most Outstanding musician. Congratulations to senior Aiden Hanas for winning this year’s award for his outstanding musicianship on bass as well as bringing his original composition to the Festival. The judges were incredibly impressed with Aiden’s talent!  The CNS Jazzers are so proud of you, Aiden!
