On Friday, October 11, Lily, the third grade student in Mr. Lax’s class, had the honor of being driven to school aboard Mattydale Fire Department’s Engine No. 3. As the overall winner of the fire department’s October Coloring Contest for Fire Safety Month, Lily was chauffeured to school on board the massive truck, along with her family members. NSCSD Community Invited to Vote on OCM BOCES' Nov. 19 Referendum NSCSD Community Invited to Vote on OCM BOCES' Nov. 19 Referendum: North Syracuse Central School District voters, along with others who live within the school districts of the Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES, are being asked to decide if the educational agency should end its 32-year lease for a campus off Crown Road in Liverpool and purchase the facility for $12.85 million. A public vote will take place on Tuesday, November 19.  The purchase would result in no additional costs for the 23 school districts that participate in shared services through OCM BOCES, said OCM BOCES Deputy Superintendent Colleen Viggiano. Based on a financial analysis of the proposal, the purchase could save districts an estimated $2.2 million over the next 20 years, she said. As new participants in the Positivity Project, the school’s community has adopted the “other people matter” mindset. The Positivity Project is a building-wide movement focused on teaching positive psychology’s 24 character strengths over the course of the school year.  A variety of activities have been planned to get kids connected to school & life, build relationships, teach empathy and create a positive, growth mindset. The band is the first to hit 90 points this season! The band is preparing for the October 27 Championship Show at the Syracuse University Carrier Dome. Board of Education Hears Proposal for Renovations to KWS Bear Road Elementary School and C-NS Land Purchase Board of Education Hears Proposal for Renovations to KWS Bear Road Elementary School and C-NS Land Purchase: At their October 7, 2019 meeting the North Syracuse Central School District's Board of Education heard a proposal to present two propositions to district voters. The propositions for renovations at KWS Bear Road Elementary School and the purchase of land at Cicero-North Syracuse High School are detailed here . The Board of Education will be asked to approve the proposals at their October 21, 2019 meeting. Girls’ Volleyball Program Supports Buddywalk Girls’ Volleyball Program Supports Buddywalk: For the 4 th consecutive year, student athletes in the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Girls’ Volleyball program have spent time volunteering for the Syracuse Buddywalk. The 2019 Buddywalk took place on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Long Branch Park in Liverpool. The annual event provides an opportunity to celebrate achievements and raise awareness about Down syndrome within the community. Melanie Stonebarger, who is the head coach of the Girls’ Varsity program says she was introduced to the Buddywalk about ten years ago by Kathy Gedney, a former Volleyball coach at Liverpool. Middle School Students Learn Chinese Language and Culture Middle School Students Learn Chinese Language and Culture:   Middle school students in the North Syracuse Central School District have a unique opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture through a program with the Confucius Institute at Alfred University. Through the program, sponsor teachers teach Mandarin Chinese to 5th & 6th Grade students at both Gillette Road Middle School and Roxboro Road Middle School to expose them to various aspects of Chinese in lieu of study halls with parent permission. The program has been offered in the North Syracuse Central School District for nearly 10 years and has exposed hundreds of students to things such as Chinese dance and books, traditional lantern festivals, eating traditions, holidays, music and much more. District Proud to Support Ride for Missing Children District Proud to Support Ride for Missing Children: Each year, the Syracuse-area Ride for Missing Children (RFMC) brings together bicyclists from the Central New York area pedaling in unison to raise awareness about child exploitation and victimization. The ride is an exciting event with riders, escorted by local law enforcement, joining together across 100 miles making stops at several schools. Districts Split Victories in Pajamarama with Upstate Golisano Being the True Winner!: November, 2019 As part of Paige’s Pajamarama on Friday, October 27, Cicero-North Syracuse High School challenged Liverpool High School to see which school could raise the most money to support Paige’s Butterfly Run, Inc. in their efforts to help kids fighting cancer at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. Parent Advocacy Group offering free training on navigating Special Education Process – October 17 Parent Advocacy Group offering free training on navigating Special Education Process – October 17: The North Syracuse Central School District’s Parent Advocacy Group (PAG) has announced their first meeting/training of the 2019-2020 school year. It will take place on Thursday, October 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Roxboro Road Elementary School (200 Bernard Street) in Mattydale. The training is focused on families that have elementary-level children but everyone is welcome to attend the session that is free and open to all district residents. Refreshments will be served. District District "Gearing" up to Support September 27 Ride for Missing Children: The North Syracuse Central School District is “gearing” up to support the Ride for Missing Children (RFMC) on Friday, September 27th. This is a very exciting event with more than 100 riders pedaling their way across Onondaga County passing many communities along the way and even stopping at several schools. The RFMC is an awareness and fundraising event for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, NY Regional Office (NCMEC/NY). Riders commit to meet fundraising goals, to train, and to ride. Superintendent Looks Forward to Working with Staff and Students Superintendent Looks Forward to Working with Staff and Students: North Syracuse Central School District Superintendent of Schools, Daniel Bowles, took time the first week of school to visit all eleven of the district's schools. During the visits, the new superintendent had opportunities to talk with students, staff and families and learn about what their hopes are for the school year. Mr. Bowles is pictured visiting classrooms at Roxboro Road Middle School and helping students arriving at Roxboro Road Elementary School, where he formerly worked as the building principal. Former staff greeted the superintendent warmly and shared his sentiments for a great school year. District Notified of Data Security Incident District Notified of Data Security Incident: The North Syracuse Central School District was notified the morning of August 28, 2019, about a data security incident involving the unauthorized access of personally identifiable information for current and former NSCSD students. Student data which is stored on the North Syracuse Central School District’s network was not compromised.   The information accessed was through the AIMSweb 1.0 system, which is provided by Pearson Clinical Assessment (Pearson) and stored on their own network. Internet and Social Media Safety Information Internet and Social Media Safety Information: Dear Parents: As you may know, the North Syracuse Central School District’s Department of Information Technology provides students access to a state-of-the-art computer network and devices for educational purposes. While this access allows students to explore thousands of libraries, databases, and educational web sites, it does not come without risk.  As part of our efforts to teach students about internet safety, they must read and acknowledge the district’s approved computer, internet, e-mail and telephone use policy (4201) before being given access to district devices.
