-School Bus Drivers

The North Syracuse Central School District is hiring bus drivers and bus attendants. 

Substitute Attendant Job Description: 
This position involves covering for attendants that are absent. We are responsible for the safe transportation of at least 9,700 students every day. Interested candidates must be available Monday through Friday, in the morning from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The starting pay for a substitute attendant is $16 per hour. After one calendar year, the rate goes up to $16.50 per hour. Substitute attendants do not receive any health coverage but WILL be able to enroll in the New York State Retirement System. 

Attendants primarily work with special needs students. These children have disabilities varying from physical, mental, social, emotional or any combination of the above. 

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lifting, bending, stretching, reaching into tight corners;
  • Working with wheelchairs, harnesses and other equipment needed to safely transport students with special needs;
  • Moving around the bus to interact and care for all children during the course of their bus ride to and from school. 
Substitute School Bus Driver Job Description:
Substitute school bus drivers cover runs for drivers that are absent. We are responsible for the safe transportation of at least 9,700 students every day. Interested candidates must be available Monday through Friday, in the morning from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position also requires covering some field trips working into the evening hours. Field trips are assigned in a rotation between all the substitutes. Sub drivers will be provided with a schedule with as much advance notice as possible, however, there will be times when new assignments are adjusted as needed. The starting rate is $23 per hour. After one calendar year, the rate goes up to $24 per hour. Substitute bus drivers do not receive any health coverage but WILL be able to enroll n the New York State Retirement System.
