Voters approve 2026-27 budget proposal

May 19, 2026

North Syracuse Central School District voters have agreed to the district’s proposed 2026-27 school year budget with a 56% percent approval. A total of 2,208 votes were cast, with the final tally being 1,226 yes votes and 980 no votes on the $233,406,875 proposal. A bus proposition for $2,525,994 also passed with 1,360 yes votes and 842 no votes for a 62 percent approval. Additionally, the Salina Free Library proposition for $536,933 passed (70 percent approval) with 71 yes votes and 30 no votes. 

Voters elected the following three candidates to the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education for (three-year) terms beginning July 1, 2026:  
  • Cheryl McDonald (1,605 votes)
  • Michael Mirizio (1,553 votes)
  • Carol Goehner (1,538 votes)
Additionally, Joshua Ludden (with 1,519 votes) was elected for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2026. Michael A. Shusda was not elected, receiving 913 votes. 

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Terry L. Ward said, “Many thanks to all of our community members who came out to vote this year. It has been a challenging year but the support has been amazing and we are so grateful.” 

The 2026-27 tax levy increase of 5.25 percent is within the allowable tax levy limit as calculated under the state’s “tax cap” guidelines. Therefore, a simple majority was required for authorization. Voters are asked to provide input by taking a short exit poll online
