NSCSD shares findings from Special Education Audit
January 13, 2026: The North Syracuse Central School District recently completed an independent audit of its in-district special education programming and services as part of its ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and inclusive practices. The audit, conducted by independent consultant Rocco Nalli, examined program quality, student outcomes, resource allocation, leadership structures and preschool-to-kindergarten transitions. Input was gathered through staff interviews and focus groups, parent surveys and a review of district data and procedures.
Overall, the audit identified opportunities to strengthen consistency across buildings, improve communication with families, enhance professional learning and clarify leadership structures to better support students with disabilities. The report emphasizes that these findings are systemic and structural, not related to individual performance.
On Monday, January 12, Mr. Nalli presented his recommendations to the Board of Education. In response, the Board approved Mr. Nalli to serve as Interim Director of Pupil Personnel to help guide the district in implementing recommendations and supporting next steps.
The district is committed to working collaboratively with staff and families as it develops a thoughtful, phased plan to move forward. Additional information and opportunities for engagement will be shared in the coming weeks.
