On Friday, November 14, NSCSD Physical Education Teachers and Unified Club Advisors Becky Jones and Eric Smith accompanied members of the district's Unified Club to Cazenovia High School for a regional Unified Summit. We are proud to announce that North Syracuse Central School District has been officially designated as a New York State Unified Banner School. Unified Banner Schools are recognized for their commitment to inclusion and for meeting key criteria: maintaining an active Unified Club, participating in Unified Sports and promoting whole-school engagement that supports students of all abilities. During the summit, Unified Clubs from North Syracuse, Liverpool, Nottingham, Cazenovia, East Syracuse Minoa and Chittenango came together to collaborate on new ideas for strengthening inclusive practices. Students participated in brainstorming sessions and delivered presentations focused on fostering school-wide engagement and creating more welcoming environments in their home districts. |
| The mission of Unified Clubs is to promote social inclusion and equality by bringing students with and without intellectual disabilities together through sports, social activities, and school-wide initiatives. These youth-led clubs build positive peer relationships, encourage leadership, reduce bullying and raise awareness by modeling what inclusive school communities can look like. North Syracuse CSD is proud of our students and staff for their continued leadership and dedication to ensuring that every student feels valued and included. Their work exemplifies what it means to create a supportive and unified school community. |
