NSCSD students shine at Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged Clinic

Students and staff from across the North Syracuse Central School District recently had a chance to participate in the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged Clinic at Syracuse University.

The event brought together students from Cicero-North Syracuse High School, who volunteered at the clinic, along with student athletes from Gillette Road Middle School and Smith Road Elementary, who competed in a variety of activities. Students had a blast connecting with peers from other local districts, cheering each other on and embracing the spirit of friendly competition.

The Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged is a statewide program that provides youth ages 5 to 21 with opportunities for fitness and adapted sports competition. Participants include students who are visually or hearing impaired, have spinal cord injuries, amputations, cerebral palsy or other physical conditions such as muscular dystrophy, arthritis, dwarfism or heart conditions.

The Adapted Sports Clinic builds on the Games’ mission by introducing new athletes to exciting events and promoting confidence through movement and teamwork. Students learned about and participated in a variety of fun and engaging activities,  including field events, mini golf, basketball shooting, target shooting, wheelchair and ambulatory slalom and more.

Events like this exemplify the heart of the NSCSD community, where all students are encouraged to grow, connect and celebrate their abilities.
