CNS grad continues to “Crush Cancer” from boot camp

The North Syracuse Central School District is proud to share that Cicero-North Syracuse graduate Kevin Tom continues to make a difference in our community, even while serving in the military.
Kevin began his Can Crush Cancer bottle and can drive as a CNS student in honor of his childhood best friend, Griffin, to support Griffin’s Guardians and raise awareness for pediatric cancer. Although Kevin is currently away at boot camp, his family, friends and former teachers are keeping his mission alive.
Mary Ann Calzada, a teacher at Gillette Road Middle School, and retired Cicero Elementary School teacher Patty Budge, are helping lead the charge while Kevin is away. The pair are taking up Kevin’s cause and asking students and community members to collect cans and give back to a cause that continues to unite the North Syracuse community.
Event Dates: November 8 and 9, 2025
Event Times: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day
Location: Griffin’s Guardians Office, 8116 Brewerton Road, Cicero, NY
What to Bring: Returnable bottles and cans - all proceeds benefit Griffin’s Guardians.
Even from afar, Kevin remains an incredible example of Northstar pride, demonstrating how one student’s compassion can inspire a community for years to come.
