North Syracuse Junior High to Host 2025 Scholastic Chess Open
The North Syracuse Central School District is proud to host the 2025 Central New York Scholastic Chess Championship on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at North Syracuse Junior High School (5353 W. Taft Road) in North Syracuse. This exciting annual event brings together students in grades K–12, including eligible home-schooled students, from across Central New York for a full day of strategy, problem-solving and friendly competition.Tournament Details
- Date: Saturday, November 15, 2025
- Location: North Syracuse Junior High School
- Check-In & Late Registration: 8:30–10 a.m.
- No late registrations will be accepted after 10 a.m.
- Round 1 begins at 11 a.m.
- Event concludes at approximately 4 p.m.
- Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the day.
There will be two sections:
- Grades K–5
- Grades 6–12
Awards & Recognition
- Trophies will be awarded to the top five individual players and the top three teams in each section.
- Chess medals will be presented to all players who score three or more points and do not receive a trophy.
½-Point Byes
- Players unable to attend all four rounds may request ½-point byes for missed rounds.
- These requests must be made in advance, before the tournament begins.
- Standard Entry Fee: $10 per player
- Discounted Fee: $9 per player for teams with 6 or more players
- Late Registration (on-site, Nov. 15): $15 per player
- All fees must be paid on-site during check-in (8:30 - 10 a.m.).
- Payments are accepted by cash or check (payable to Robert Nasiff).
To avoid the $5 late fee, please register by Friday, November 14, 2025. Registrations can be submitted online here or by emailing the following information to yankee@twcny.rr.com or texting it to 315-289-4616:
- Player’s full name
- School
- Grade
- Phone number
- Section (K–5 or 6–12)
Team Rosters
- Team rosters must be submitted by Friday, November 14.
- Coaches or team supervisors should collect and submit all team entry fees along with rosters.
- Roster changes (additions/removals) will be accepted on the morning of the event before 10:00 AM.
By participating as a player, coach, or spectator at the 2025 Central New York Scholastic Chess Championship, you agree that North Syracuse Junior High School, the North Syracuse Central School District and any tournament staff or volunteers are not liable for any physical injuries that may occur during the event. Parents and coaches are responsible for supervising their children or students at all times.
