Superintendent to reinvigorate Student Advisory Council
The North Syracuse Central School District (NSCSD) is reaffirming its commitment to student voice and leadership by reinvigorating the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) for the 2025-26 school year. The SSAC serves as a direct line of communication between students and district leadership, ensuring that student perspectives are considered in key decision-making processes.Dr. Ward, who took over as superintendent in January, is eager to strengthen the SSAC’s role and enhance student engagement. He is working with principals at Gillette Road Middle School, Roxboro Road Middle School, North Syracuse Junior High School and Cicero-North Syracuse High School to ensure a broad representation of student voices.
“We recently conducted a ThoughtExchange survey and heard valuable insights from some students, but we want to hear more,” said Dr. Ward. “Student voices are critical to school and district success and the SSAC provides a unique opportunity for students to share their experiences and help shape the future of their schools.”
The SSAC functions as a focus group, representing students across the district and providing feedback on topics such as academic programs, school policies and student well-being. Members participate in discussions, collaborate on initiatives and help advocate for their peers.
“I am excited to meet with students and work together to brainstorm ideas and develop projects that will make a real impact,” Dr. Ward said. “Our district thrives when we collaborate, and the SSAC will be an important part of that process. We truly are Brighter Together when we engage students as partners in shaping our schools and our future.”
Dr. Ward plans to meet with the SSAC before the end of this school year and continue working closely with the group to help prioritize district initiatives for 2025-26.
