Board of Education adopts DEI policy, seeks DEI committee members

At their regular meeting on Monday, March 18, the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education adopted a policy regarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The policy reflects the district's steadfast commitment to fostering an educational environment that values diversity, promotes equity, and ensures inclusion for all students and staff.

The policy outlines the steps the district will take to foster DEI in its schools. As part of the policy, the district is seeking to expand its current DEI committee and is looking for individuals willing to commit to the work. Potential members must be able to participate in monthly meetings after work hours. Interested persons should understand that students thrive in an environment free from discrimination and harassment and that our environments must promote respect and diversity to be successful.

The committee will assist the district in creating and implementing plans to advance its commitment to maintaining a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where all individuals feel valued and respected. As needed, the DEI Committee will also review district policies, practices, and programs and provide suggestions as to how they could potentially be modified to better promote DEI and support our students.

The DEI committee will begin meeting as soon as possible. Meeting times, dates and locations will be shared with members once a schedule is developed.

Interested in being involved?
Click here to complete the interest form by April 12, 2024. A team of stakeholders will review all of the responses and select the council members based on their experiences and contributions to the district’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Everyone who completes an interest form will hear back by April 26, 2024.
