Board approves 2024-25 school calendar along with updated 2023-24 calendar making April 8 non-school day

March 19, 2024, North Syracuse, NY - At their meeting last night, the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education approved a school calendar for the 2024-2025 school year in addition to an updated calendar for the current school year making Monday, April 8, 2024 a Solar Eclipse/Unused Snow Day Holiday. All North Syracuse schools will now be closed on April 8 for all students and staff.

Why the change to April 8? Because Syracuse falls in the path of totality, we will experience a moment of total darkness. This once-in-a-lifetime event is anticipated to attract a significant number of spectators from outside the area. With the extra added traffic and number of events being planned for the area, the district was concerned about safely transporting students to and from school that day, especially if emergency management offices need to focus on the influx of visitors and traffic. School districts in other regions of the country that have experienced total eclipses like this have encountered those issues and the district decided to make the switch. Most other districts in the area have chosen either to dismiss early or close completely that day.

The new and updated calendars are provided as links above.
