Celebrating our MathCON participants

The North Syracuse Central School District is proud to announce that our top ten MathCON students will be recognized for their standout efforts. MathCON is a national online math competition and this is the first time that the District has participated. The District’s top 10 scores were all above the 85th percentile. Nickolas Scholz, who is the director of mathematics for the North Syracuse Central School District was impressed with the participation and the results. He said, “We had more than 100 student participants from every elementary building and they did so well! Our top student scored in the 91st percentile.”
MathCON is a 4th grade math extension opportunity for students in the highest 10th percentile in our schools. Prior to the March 9 competition, which was held at North Syracuse Junior High School, the students studied and completed practice problems over the last 2.5 months in preparation. Many of the problems represented content that would be taught in 4-5 grade levels above where the students are currently studying.

Scholz commented on how well the event went. “The coordination of the Junior High administration, Elementary School principals, 4th grade Math Committee members, a retired math teacher and of course all of the students made for an amazing event,” Scholz said. “We look forward to recognizing our students for their exceptional work at a Board Meeting in April.”
