On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Cicero-North Syracuse High School Music Teacher and Band Director Karen Seamans, had a surprise visit from staff of WCNY Classic FM Radio for a special presentation. The media representatives had come to the school to announce in front of Karen's band class that she had been selected as the station's Music Educator of the Month for November.

The Station's Music Educator Awards Program began this September as part of their 50th Anniversary celebration. Of the award program, Ron Lombard, the station manager for WCNY Radio Classic FM, said, "We felt strongly that it’s our place as Central NY’s only classical music station to lead the market in drawing more attention to the hard and wonderful work being done every day by music teachers throughout our coverage area."

The award is given monthly to local music educators who are dedicated to sustaining the performing arts and who have a strong influence on their students. Karen received two separate nominations for the award and was one of only three nominees (out of dozens) to have been nominated by more than one person.

As the November award recipient, Karen will have the opportunity to bring the musical ensemble of her choice to the WCNY studios to record a performance that will air on the radio station. Karen also received an award plaque and will have the honor announced on Classic FM and on the WCNY website. Honorees are chosen by a selection committee that includes two representatives of Symphoria, which is supporting the program along with Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music.

Congratulations Karen Seamans!
