Social Media Threat at Cicero-North Syracuse High School

November 4, 2022 @ 9:30 a.m.

Dear NSCSD Students, Families, and Staff,

This message is a follow-up to our previous communication regarding a social media post by a Cicero-North Syracuse High School student.
Information has been released by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office sharing that they have charged a 17-year-old female student in the incident. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that a weapon was found in the student’s home. The student is now facing serious criminal charges and disciplinary action.

On behalf of our Board of Education, the leadership team, and our entire staff, I offer a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our law enforcement officials and school administrators who worked to identify the alleged perpetrator of the threat. The District will continue to support the work of law enforcement as their work on this matter proceeds, and we will remain vigilant in maintaining safe and secure school campuses.

We will continue to implement and seek additional measures to protect our students and staff because as always, there is no higher priority for our district.

Sincerely,
Dan Bowles
NSCSD Superintendent of Schools

NSCSD Students, Families and Staff;

Earlier today, the district was informed of a social media post threatening violence from one C-NS student to another. Onsite school resource officers were immediately informed and began investigating the matter. Officers have taken appropriate action. The district is not at liberty to provide details of an ongoing law enforcement investigation but we can share that administration and law enforcement officials determined that no lockdown or school closures were necessary. Out of an abundance of caution, additional school resources officers are now on-hand at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

“As always, we take these reports very seriously and all safety protocols and procedures were followed,” said Superintendent of Schools Dan Bowles.

“Please remember the importance of working together as a community to help keep everyone safe. If you see or hear something, say something. Please talk to your students and continue to report concerns to school administration.”
