Winter Weather Reminders

Winter weather is beginning to make an appearance and the North Syracuse Central School District wants to remind our families and community members of some important snow day, delay and early closing information.

SCHOOLMESSENGER - The District uses SchoolMessenger to notify parents, guardians and district staff of emergency school closings, delays and early dismissals. The system generates an automated phone call, email message – if an email address has been provided to the District – and a text message for parents, guardians and staff members who have opted in to the SchoolMessenger text message service. Learn more about text alerts on our website by clicking here.

If parents or guardians are unsure whether the district has their correct email or phone numbers on file, they should check their child's SchoolTool account. If changes need to be made, parents must contact the main office of their child’s school.

WEBSITE/SOCIAL MEDIA - All emergency notifications are posted on the District website, as well as the District’s Facebook page and Tweeted to the District account.

NEWS MEDIA – The District notifies local news media of closings, delays and event cancellations as a backup to SchoolMessenger and website communications. We recommend checking with multiple information sources when it comes to weather-related announcements. This is particularly true in situations that involve power outages, which can impact the District’s ability to send electronic notifications.

The following local TV and radio stations are notified of emergency communications for North Syracuse Central School District: Spectrum News (channel 10), WSTM (TV 3), WTVH (TV 5), WIXT (TV 9), 570 WSYR and 88.3 WAER.

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION - Please be sure to complete and update your child’s Emergency Form and update it when necessary.  Your child’s school must know where your child should go in the event of an early dismissal.

BREAKFAST SERVICE DURING DELAYS – If the District announces a 1-hour delayed opening, school breakfast WILL be served. If the District announces a 2-hour delayed opening, school breakfast WILL NOT be served and families should ensure that their child eats before arriving at school. 

When there is inclement or forecasted inclement weather, the decision to close school, delay opening or dismiss early is based on travel conditions and weather predictions to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Unless otherwise noted, all scheduled activities at all District schools are canceled on the days school is closed or closes early.
