Nominations Being Accepted for Wall of Distinction - November 19 Deadline

The North Syracuse Central School District is currently accepting nominations for their Wall of Distinction’s class of 2021. Nomination forms are available online by clicking here or by calling the office of Christopher R. Leahey, Ed.D., North Syracuse Central School District Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, at (315) 218-2148. In order for candidates to be considered for the class of 2021, nomination forms must be submitted by Friday, November 19, 2021. The ceremony honoring the selected candidates will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022.

The North Syracuse Central School District Wall of Distinction was created in 1990 for the purpose of recognizing and honoring graduates of North Syracuse High School, Cicero High School or Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Each year, an advisory committee considers nominated graduates who have achieved a high level of prominence in their personal and/or professional lives and who have participated in extensive community service or volunteer activities for induction to the Wall of Distinction.

Mr. Leahey said, “Each time we welcome a new class of inductees, I am reminded of the sheer talent, prominence and absolute distinction that exists in the students that have come through our schools. It is awe-inspiring to know that such amazing people have gotten their starts right here in North Syracuse! I am positive that our current students look at that wall and aspire to reach such levels of greatness.”

There are currently more than 100 names on the North Syracuse Central School District Wall of Distinction. Former inductees include Hollywood actor Richard Gere, United States Navy Captain Connie Frizzell, local television news reporter and anchor Jackie Robinson, as well as many politicians, businesspeople, board of education members and teachers.

To be considered for the Wall of Distinction, candidates must have graduated from one of the high schools that have been a part of the North Syracuse Central School District. Persons who attended North Syracuse Central School District schools but graduated from another school district are eligible as candidates upon a majority vote of the advisory committee.

Nomination forms are available by clicking here or by calling (315) 218-2148. Information required to submit a nomination includes items such as the candidate’s name, present address if known, year of graduation, the high school from which the candidate graduated, basis for nomination to the Wall of Distinction (including information regarding the candidate’s personal or professional achievements and participation in community service or volunteer activities), phone number of the candidate, and the name of a relative or friend of the candidate who has contact with/or personal knowledge of the whereabouts of the candidate.
