Back to School!
Welcome to the 2020/2021 school year. We are excited to welcome our students back after so many months! Our teachers, administrators and staff are working very hard to be prepared for this first day of school so our students feel welcome and safe. Because things will look a bit different this year, we are asking for everyone’s patience and cooperation while we navigate this new territory.
Please take a few minutes to carefully read the information below and click here for the 2020/2021 First Day Checklist.
As in the past, we’d love to share your first days of school pictures. Please share your photos with our school information officer, Laurie Cook by email at email@example.com. High-quality, horizontal photos may be considered as new images for the District homepage!
Health and Safety. As our schools re-open for the new school year we have continued to focus on the health and safety of our students and staff. As a District, we are committed to ensuring we follow the New York State Education Department and Department of Health protocols and guidelines outlined in our the NSCSD Re-entry Plan and sharing accurate, updated information with our community. Starting next week, the NSCSD website will be linked to the New York State Department of Health featuring data on staff and students for each school and any confirmed cases of COVID-19 confirmed in our schools. This data dashboard will be updated daily and all personally identifiable information will be kept confidential.
Screening Symptomatic Students and Staff. All students and staff will be screened daily with students having their temperatures taken at arrival. Parents should keep their child home if they have any symptoms associated with COVOID-19. These symptoms are:
- Fever or chills (100 degrees or greater)
- Shortness of breath
- Muscle or body aches
- Loss of taste and smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea and vomiting
If students are symptomatic at school we will follow the protocol listed on page 19 of the NSCSD Re-Entry Plan and require the following steps to be taken before returning to school: (1) The individual does not have a fever, without the use of fever reducing medicines, and they have felt well for 24 hours; (2) The individual submits a note from their healthcare provider stating that they are clear to return to in-person education; and (3) The individual submits proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Parents are encouraged to work closely with their health care providers and school nurse should their child exhibit symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
ClassLink. NSCSD will be using ClassLink for the 2020-2021 school year. ClassLink is North Syracuse Central School District’s new Single Sign-On tool for simplifying access to your child’s educational programs. Staff and students will use ClassLink daily to access several different educational platforms. ClassLink helps to simplify accessing several different applications by placing them on your student’s Launchpad. ClassLink can be accessed from almost any device from a Chromebook, PC, all the way to an iPhone or iPad at home. Click here to view the ClassLink guide online or click here to log into ClassLink.
Weekly COVID Questionnaire. We recognize that our parents are valuable partners in successfully reopening schools. As another precautionary measure, parents will be receiving a COVID questionnaire every Sunday night. This survey will require you to indicate your child is not experiencing any symptoms associated with COVID-19 or had close contact with anyone who is symptomatic or tested positive. Please be certain to complete the survey for each child attending school. All results will be confidential and help us to maintain healthy schools.
I would like to thank all of our NSCSD parents for their continued support and patience as we work together to make this school year a success. As always please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. I wish everyone a successful school year.
As a reminder, meals are temporarily free to all students, will be served in school and can be picked up for students learning remotely.
