Read Superintendent Bowles' August 21 Update to Families

August 21, 2020

Hello North Syracuse Central School District Families and Staff,

As we head into the final weeks of summer at what seems to be warp speed, I thought it was important to take a moment to reach out to all of you. We have now received your requests for remote learning services and our building staff are in the process of putting together schedules. We understand that you may have questions or be considering a change but we are asking you to wait to call the schools until after Monday, August 24 so staff have time to create initial schedules.

I also want to thank everyone who took time to submit questions and watch our recent parent information sessions. We received a tremendous number of excellent questions and spent a considerable amount of time on the answers. I hope the sessions provided the information you need and gave you peace of mind as we navigate the uncertainties created by COVID. For those of you that would like to review the information presented in the meetings, the recordings are available on the District’s webpage and YouTube Channel. Additional questions and answers will also be posted to the District’s COVID-19 Resources and FAQ websites.

I have spoken with many of you about the anxieties you felt trying to make the best choice for your children and families. This is not an ideal situation and I want you to know that I understand how hard this is. Please know that we are doing our best to give you all the information you need in the most efficient way. We are in the process of creating a short video for our elementary students to show them what their school day is going to look like. Thank you to the teachers, principals and especially our student “actors” that helped us create the video. A link to the video will be sent to the families of grade K-4 students as soon as it is complete.

Because things have been changing so regularly, our annual printed calendar will not be published before the start of the school year so it is essential for you to check our online calendar. You can even use the calendar’s RSS buttons to subscribe automatic updates in one or more categories.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read our update. Enjoy your weekend!
