North Syracuse Junior High School Students recognized in "Save the Rain" barrel painting contest

Students in Mrs. Mrs. Patterson’s 9th grade Studio Art class at North Syracuse Junior High School recently participated in Onondaga County's “Save the Rain” barrel painting contest. The contest is part of the County's "Save the Rain" initiative intended to reduce pollution to Onondaga Lake with a storm water management plan.

The barrels collect storm water that would otherwise wind up in the local sewer system, resulting in the need to filter and clean that water. Mrs. Patterson's students submitted a total of eight barrels, two of which were selected as winners. The “Commissioner’s Choice” was awarded to Des Scarfino and the first place winner of the contest in the high school category was presented to Abby Fenner.

Abby and her winning barrel are pictured with Mrs. Patterson during the contest gala held at Rosamond Gifford Zoo on May 29.

Congratulations Abby and Des!
