Sheriff's Department issues statement regarding incident at North Syracuse Junior High School

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department issued the following statement regarding a recent incident at North Syracuse Junior High School:

Sheriff’s Office Investigates “Altercation” Involving Two Students

Town of Clay, New York – The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office along with the North Syracuse School District conducted an investigation into an altercation between two students that recently occurred at the North Syracuse Junior High School.

Over the weekend, the Sheriff’s Office and the North Syracuse Central School District Office became aware of an altercation between two students at the Junior High School after a video depicting the fight went viral on social media. An investigation was immediately conducted by deputies, which revealed that the two students, who are friends, agreed to meet in the bathroom for the sole purpose of participating in a slap box contest. Both students, who are juveniles, were not injured and as a result of the incident, the student disciplinary process was initiated by the school district.

The Sheriff’s Office has deemed the incident non-criminal in nature and continues to work closely with the North Syracuse Central School District to provide a safe environment for all students and staff.
