School Boundaries and Attendance Zones
The North Syracuse Central School District (NSCSD) establishes attendance zones for each school annually. These boundaries are designed to support our mission of literacy and academic success for every student and to ensure effective and efficient resource management.

Attendance Zone Policies
The Superintendent of Schools and designated staff establish attendance zones, subject to Board of Education approval. While students generally attend their residential school as assigned, the Superintendent maintains the authority to permit or direct a student to attend an alternate school as well as the right to deny requests for alternate school attendance.
Exceptions to School Assignments
A student may be assigned to a school outside of their residential attendance zone under the following circumstances:
Day Care and Babysitting (Grades K-4 only)
Families of elementary students may seek permission to attend a school in a different attendance zone if they receive day care services at the home of a babysitter or daycare provider in a different attendance zone. The Superintendent of Schools maintains the right to deny requests based on class size and/or other circumstances.
- If approved to attend an alternate school due to a babysitter arrangement, the student must utilize District transportation to and from the babysitter’s address only. Transportation is not provided directly to the student's primary home.
- Students may remain at the alternate school as long as they stay with the same babysitter or daycare provider, however, annual approval is required.
- Deadline: Written requests must be submitted to the Superintendent every year by April 1.
- If a babysitter arrangement changes during the school year, please contact the principal or Registrar as soon as possible.
Specialized Needs and Programs
To strengthen leadership support and service delivery in special education, the Committee on Special Education may assign a student to another school to receive specific services. Additionally, students may be moved to schools that host consolidated programs, such as English as a New Language.
Intra-District Moves (Grades K-4)
Students who move to a different area within the district after the second trimester may be allowed to finish the school year at their current school. In these cases, the district is not required to provide transportation. A written request must be submitted to the Superintendent.
School Overcrowding and Utilization
Students who move to a different area within the District after the second trimester may be allowed to finish the school year at their current school. In these cases, parents/guardians will be responsible to provide transportation. A written request must be submitted to the Superintendent for approval to continue at current school. The student will be required to attend their school of residence for the next school year.
