August 2019
Dear Students and Parents,
On behalf of the Gillette Road Middle School Staff, we welcome you to a new school year. We are excited to share a new middle school schedule for grades 5, 6 & 7. Along with our new middle school schedule, there are new program opportunities for all of our students.
All students at the fifth grade level will be enrolled in a course called “Personal Management.” This 20-week course will address personal finance, time management skills and more. All fifth grade students will also be enrolled in a 20-week science, technology and math (STEM) course that is of a program developed by the University of Rochester, called “Project Lead the Way.” Our fifth graders will also be enrolled in a 20 week Technology Course, and a 20 week Family Consumer Sciences Course. These programs have in part been offered to our seventh grade students in the past.
All students at the sixth grade level will be enrolled in a 20 week Family Consumer Sciences Course, and a 20 week Technology Course. These programs were previously offered in part to seventh grade students. All sixth grade students will be enrolled in a new 20 week Health Course, and a new 20 week Science, Technology and Math (STEM) Course that is developed by the University of Rochester, called “Project Lead the Way.”
All students at the seventh grade level will choose a twenty week Technology Course or a Family Consumer Sciences Course.
Students at grades 5, 6, & 7 will experience sixty-minute instructional blocks this year for all courses, and a daily thirty-minute period called “What I Need (WIN).” Our building will adopt the “Positivity Project,” and all of our music performance groups (chorus, band, & orchestra) will rehearse inside of the instructional day, with our new schedule.
The Gillette Road Middle School Community welcomes new District Leaders, a new Principal, and a new Associate Principal, along with a new sixth grade Guidance Counselor, and several teachers new to Gillette.
Students will receive an informational mailing sent August 21. In this mailing, all students will learn of their team assignment, and their WIN assignment. Students will report to their WIN location on the first day of school, where they will receive their schedule, locker number and combination. Building Tours will be held on August 27, from 2:00-6:00 PM, and we welcome you to join us.
On behalf of the Gillette Road Middle School Staff, I welcome you all to a new school year. Let our journey together begin!
Sincerely,
David Cordone
Principal of Gillette Road Middle School
