North Syracuse School District Offers Dates for Kindergarten Registration for the 2010-2011 School Year

Registration for kindergarten students coming into schools in the North Syracuse Central School District will take place at the following locations on the dates and times provided: Allen Road Elementary March 10, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM March 11, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM K.W. S. Bear Road Elementary March 9, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM March 11, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Cicero Elementary March 8, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM March 10, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 Lakeshore Road Elementary March 9, 2010 from 12:00 Noon – 3:00 PM and from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Roxboro Road Elementary March 10, 2010 from 12:00 Noon - 3:00 PM and from 4:00 - 7:00 PM March 11, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Smith Road Elementary March 9, 2010 from 12:00 Noon – 3:00 PM and from 4:00 - 7:00 PM In order to enter school next fall, your child must be 5 years old on or before December 1, 2010. You must bring with you to registration: • Your child’s birth certificate. • Your child’s Social Security Number. (Card is not required) • Verification of your child’s immunization record. • Proof of residency (mortgage statement, lease agreement or rental receipt, purchase offer and/or utility bill). Driver’s license is NOT acceptable. • All children are required to have three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine BEFORE entering kindergarten; therefore, proof of immunity to Hepatitis B must be provided prior to entering school this fall. • Custody papers, if applicable You must attend the registration session at your child’s home school. If you miss the above sessions and need to register your child for kindergarten, please register at the North Syracuse Central School District Office, 5355 West Taft Road, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.. Any questions you may have regarding your child’s registration can be answered by calling your child’s home school.

Allen Road Elementary School to Hold Second Annual “Labor of Love” Dinner and Silent Auction – February 11, 2010

On Thursday, February 11, 2010, the Allen Road Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization will host their second annual “Labor of Love” Valentine dinner and silent auction from 5:30 – 8:00 PM at the school. The cost of the event is $4.00 per person with a family maximum of $20.00 per family. Proceeds from the auction will benefit North Area Meals on Wheels. The school’s doors will open at 5:30 to start the viewing and bidding of ceramic soup bowls, created and painted by the school’s staff and being auctioned by the PTO. Dinner will be served buffet style (continuously) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Bidding for the silent auction will end at 7:30 PM with winners announced at the end of the auction in order for those who wish to bring their bowls home at dinner’s end to be able to do so. Winning bidders who leave early will be contacted by phone and will have one week to pick up bowls before going to next highest bidder. This is a family friendly event with a children’s menu available and entertainment including live accordion music by Dominic Bellardini, a showing of the movie “Lady and the Tramp” and Valentine card making to send to Troops abroad and/or to give to family members. Be sure to bring your camera to take your own “Sweetheart Picture” at our Valentine Corner! A Valentine Door Prize will be given out at the end of the night. The C-NS Optimist Club sponsoring annual Oratorical Contest

The Optimist Club of Cicero-North Syracuse is again sponsoring an Oratorical Contest for all youth who live within the boundaries of the North Syracuse Central School District. Students from our district have participated in the past and have moved on to higher competitions. The club hopes to do so again this year. This year’s official contest topic is “Cyber Communication: Progress or Problem?” As in the past, the competition will have separate boys’ and girls’ contests. Participants in each contest will be competing for the three award medals. The contests will be held Thursday, March 11, 2010, at 7 PM at the North Syracuse Central School District Offices, 5355 West Taft Road, North Syracuse, NY 13212. Applications should be returned to the Contest Chairperson (see address below) by Friday, February 26, 2010. This contest is open to all students under the age of 16 years old as of December 31, 2009.
