North Syracuse Central School District musicians shine

Each Year, thousands of students from schools across central New York audition to be members of various prestigious music ensembles where being the best of the best is celebrated. The music program in the North Syracuse Central School District has a strong history of nurturing successful and talented student musicians and this year’s crop of talent is among the most exceptional. More than 30 CNS musicians will take part in this weekend’s Onondaga County Music Educators Association All-County Music Festival at Liverpool High School and even more CNS students have been selected for inclusion in other elite music ensembles.    

North Syracuse Central School District’s Director of Fine Arts Daryle Redmond has been working with the district’s music teachers to ensure that their students’ tremendous accomplishments are being celebrated. Some of those students were recently honored at a NSCSD Board of Education meeting and additional students will be recognized throughout the school year. Daryle recently said, “Our schools are so fortunate to have an incredible group of teachers dedicated to instilling musical passion and prowess in their students. The fact that so many NSCSD students are being selected for elite ensembles - with some in multiple areas - is a testament to that dedication.”

CNS students selected for All-County Jazz and Vocal Jazz Ensembles, which will perform at Skaneateles High School on April 6, 2024 include: Lucy Barrera, Isabella Borte, Kaden Brown, Liam Chung, Annalisa Emmi, Zach Heilig, Madelynn Hilt, Deb Malley and Ava Wilbur. 
CNS students selected for Senior High New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Area-All State Ensembles, which will perform at Ithaca College in February include: Aiden Hanas, Andrea Iqbal, Natalie Miles, Lily Misco, Lydia Morris, Madelynn Hilt, Emma Wall and Jameson Walker. 

In addition to the above groups, two CNS students were selected for this past November’s NYSSMA Conference All-State Ensembles: Andrea Iqbal was selected for the All-State Symphonic Band on the piccolo and Ava Tyler performed as a soprano in the All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Additionally, several CNS students were selected as alternates for Conference All-State: Aiden Hanas, Madelynn Hilt, Andrea Iqbal, Natalie Miles, Lydia Morris and Ava Tyler. North Syracuse Junior High School student Abigail Gable also performed in the NYSSMA Junior High Area All-State Band on the French horn at Homer High School in November.
