Marking Period 2 will have a change of instruction style. Please know that this choice was not made on a whim. Statistics have shown that this style has a better success rate for student learning. The online videos allow for students to maintain focus while learning new material and practice at their own pace. There are no classmates calling out answers or being distracting in other ways. The homework is done in the privacy of the student’s own learning environment and they can rewind materials and play again if the student feels necessary. If a concept is not grasped on the first view, they don’t have to worry about the teacher “moving on” to get through the necessary material. Students take charge of their own learning!
With this style, there are no excuses like, “I left my homework in my locker,” or “I don’t know where it is.” Simply log into the website and the lesson they need to watch and practice will be there waiting for them! This is also great for your student when they are absent! No worries about, “What’d I miss?!”
To hold accountability of this new “homework,” the teacher can track the video & online quiz progress. The, “Oh it’s done, but it’s at my house,” is no longer an issue. Also, each time the student enters the classroom, they will have a simple assessment to check their understanding so far. This will allow the teacher to review where necessary before they begin practicing the content further. To ensure their participation in class, there will be an assessment at the end to check how the students are doing with the new material.
So … let’s get started!
To register for the class, go to the site below
You will input your first and last name so the teacher can recognize you.
Email, although optional, is helpful incase you forget your password.
You can select a user name to log in with.
Pick a password of your choice.
Enter the Class Code … It is a MUST for you to gain access to the lessons.
**The students are bringing these codes home and starting online learning on Monday or Tuesday, depending on when they have math class**
Then hit the *Sign Up* button! Now you are ready for class at home!
The expectations are they watch the videos and take notes on what they feel is important. We will still supplement notes in class and clarify, but that helps them to, “Think in Ink” … I will still tell them what I think they should get out of the information.
Students will watch the videos, take the short comprehension quiz, then we will take the following class clarifying and practicing what they learned.
