District forms committee to study swimming pool feasibility, seeks committee members

May 8, 2018 - Please be advised that the committee will not be meeting on May 8 as their work has been completed. The committe will present to the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education at a special meeting on Tuesday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m.

At their November 20, 2017 meeting, the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education passed a resolution establishing a Swimming Pool Advisory Committee. The North Syracuse Central School District has not formally studied the possibility of a pool in over 20 years. The decision to form this committee comes because of recent correspondence and comments from parents and students expressing their desire for a pool for use by our swim team, students and possibly community members.

The Board of Education has appointed Dr. William D. Silky, of Castallo & Siiky LLC-Educational Consultants, to facilitate meetings of the Swimming Pool Advisory Committee. Dr. Silky comes to us with years of experience in facilitating studies for Boards of Education across the state.

The Board of Education has charged the Swimming Pool Advisory Committee to focus its work on the following critical question:  What options, with related advantages and disadvantages, are worthy of the Board’s consideration to provide swimming pool availability for district use?

The committee will be comprised of 15-18 members to be selected through an application process. Meetings will be held at the Jerome F. Melvin Administrative Office Building on the following dates: January 9, 2018; January 30, 2018; February 27, 2018; March 13, 2018;  April 3, 2018 and May 8, 2018. Those interested in applying for membership to the committee must be available and commit to attending all meetings listed above.

Those interested in being considered as a member of the Swimming Pool Advisory Committee, should complete the necessary application and return it Connie Gibson, District Clerk, by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11th as indicated on the application form.

For those who are interested, but not members of the committee, meetings will be open to the public and attendees will be able to watch and learn as this process unfolds.
