Use and Care of the District Gas Grill

ONLY ADULTS MAY OPERATE GRILL.

Before Lighting:

  1. Make sure the wheels are in lock position.
  2. Remove water tubs and fill with water to within ½" of top edge (This will make the grill easier to clean also.)
  3. Lift lid and spray the cooking grid with Pam - BEFORE you light the grill. (Spraying with Pam will also make the grill easier to clean).

Lighting

  1. Check that the tank racks are securely mounted and the propane connector hoses are secure.
  2. Make sure the cooking lid is open.
  3. Turn all burner knobs and red runner tube knobs clockwise to the "off" position.
  4. Very slowly open gas tank valves on propane tanks.
  5. Push and turn the red runner tube knobs fully counter clockwise to the "on" position.
  6. Insert the gas lighter through the oblong hole in front panel.
  7. Check that the entire runner tube is lit by looking through the sight holes (between the end burner knobs on front panel). If runner tubes do not stay lit, shut off gas supply, wait 5 minutes and re-try.
  8. After lighting runner tubes, open desired burner valves by pushing in and turning counter clockwise.

Use

Re-fill water tubs when they evaporate to within ½" of the bottom of the tubs. This is a must - you will have a grease fire if you don't.

Shutdown

Turn all burner and runner knobs clockwise to the "off" position.

Cleaning

  1. To remove cooking grid to clean - after grill is cooled, have 2 people stand on either end of cooking lid, open lid, then lift up to remove from grill.
  2. Remove cooking grid, wash with soapy water using supplied pad. Do not use steel wool pads.
  3. Remove water from tubs and wash.

GRILL MUST BE CLEANED AFTER EVERY USE BY THE ORGANIZATION WHICH REQUESTED ITS USE.

CALL 218 - 2109 OR 2109 WHEN THE GRILL IS CLEAN AND READY TO BE PICKED UP.

MUST CALL BY 2:00 P.M., IF LATER YOU MUST STORE GRILL IN BLOCK BLDG AT YOUR LOCATION.

Troubleshooting

If the tank valves are not opened very slowly, the excess flow valve in the tank connector fitting (a safety feature) may restrict the flow of gas to the unit resulting in little or no flame at the burners. Should this happen, follow the shutdown instructions and be sure to shut off tanks and remove and re-attach the tank connectors as instructed. This is necessary to re-set a closed excess flow valve. Repeat all the steps of the lighting instructions. The appliance should now function normally. Failure to follow these guidelines may cause the excess flow valve to restrict gas flow.
